Gareth Brown: illustrating the point

Community Fridges // Illustration based on a community fridge scheme, where people share food in their community.

Illustrator Gareth Brown’s mischievous sense of humour emanates from his work, helping to make serious subjects seem more approachable. ALHAUS magazine showcases a series of simple, conceptual and funny illustrations and animated GIFs created by the Welsh creative, a graduate of Bath Spa University.

“My #CreativeResolution2020 is to have fun and enjoy my work more,” he explains. “It’s easy to get caught up in algorithms and the like, but it’s more important to focus on myself and my work and be willing to experiment and learn.”

About Gareth: Gareth Brown is a Cardiff-based illustrator who creates illustrations, animations and GIFs for a wide range of clients, with a focus on fast-paced conceptual projects for editorial. His work features playful ideas, bold colours and a satirical sense of humour — his illustrated GIFs, for instance, show some of the more bizarre and memorable moments of life under Coronavirus lockdown. Gareth takes a relatable, tongue-in-cheek approach to his work, which is mainly done on Photoshop and via a Wacom graphics tablet that enables him to draw straight on the screen.
