Behind the veil

Mist-laden skies are soaked with meaning, figures emerge from the opaque air as though searching for something. The Veil: Exploring Liminal Worlds is the most recent work of acclaimed American photojournalist Christopher Michel, captured during his time isolating in San Francisco. The images pulse with brooding tension and mystery; an apt take on the confusing times we now live in?

Here we offer a glimpse into The Veil but you can look forward to a full feature on this breathtaking collection in the next print edition of ALHAUS magazine—coming soon. Keep an eye on our social media channels for more information on release dates and stockists.

Christopher says:

“Sometimes the veil between worlds becomes visible. I’ve spent much of my pandemic isolation seeking these liminal worlds—places at the edge of reality. On one of San Francisco’s least visited hilltops, wildfire smoke and fog combine to create otherworldly visions of city life.”

Each of Christopher’s images are available to purchase via his website.
