As the world of work continues to evolve, the impact of remote working has become a hot-button topic. During the pandemic, reports found women are more likely to want to work from home than men but paradoxically have been left more burnt out than ever before. Perhaps as a backlash to the tensions that have arisen in the traditional workplace, women now make up 70% of the ‘digital nomad’ community

Step in Rumours.World, an online community of women who have been connecting women who work nomadically and travel solo for over five years. Founded by creative marketing strategist, Zoë Jenkin, the idea is to make the act of working and travelling alone less lonely. Bringing together “the good, the bad and the badass moments” that make up the experience of being a solo female traveller she offers insights and tips into the life of the digital nomad. With content like free guides to earning money abroad, Jenkin’s ethos is to make the experience of working and living on the go more transparent, exciting and accessible.

Although the community primarily use a Facebook group to stay connected, Jenkin also organises the Rumours retreat. Meeting up in this way is a great way to meet women who identify as fellow entrepreneurial travellers. Going on a retreat is also a great way to take the plunge into solo travel, offering a ready-made community to step into and connect with. Rumours.World takes the mantra ‘women helping women’ to heart and the retreats aim to also feedback into the female economy of each location. Working with women on the ground means supporting hyper-local businesses, whether that’s in arts and craft, food or tourism.

A platform like Rumours.World is all about stepping out of your comfort zone and making links with other women while living and working nomadically. Whether Jenkin is dreaming up the perfect retreat to bring women together in Morocco or offering free content to inspire, she has created a space for every solo female traveller—both in person and online.
