THDP’s Tuscan vision wins big
by Jade French
When we covered the launch of Terme di Saturnia Natural Destination earlier in June we knew it was a special kind of place. Created by design duo THDP, the mix of natural beauty and locally inspired design-led details make it a truly unique and magical place to rest, relax and recuperate.
So, we were delighted (and unsurprised!) to see THDP win ‘Best Spa Global’ at The International Hotel & Property Awards and ‘Hotel Project of the Year’ at the Mixology Awards for their work in Tuscany—recognised essentially for the outstanding eye for detail they bring to every hospitality design project.
Co-founders Manuela Mannino and Nicholas J Hickson told us: “We are honored to have won two awards in two weeks. Terme di Saturnia Natural Destination is an outstanding project in the heart of Tuscany, in a really one-of-a-kind location, and deserves this recognition. The team worked hard designing an interior that focused on local forms, finishes and—most importantly—craftsmanship”.
Alongside the stunning location, the team also stayed true to the history of the hotel: “One goal was to retain continuity between the hotel's original styling and evolving it to a more layered residential interior—this was a conscious intention to adhere to a sustainable approach to the renovation, indeed furnishings were preserved and adapted into new pieces in both guest rooms and public areas”.
Most recently, THDP has seen the RG Naxos Hotel in Sicily open to fanfare, alongside a new lobby and bar at the Hilton Cologne. Their Hudson Yards Lounge Bar at Hilton Frankfurt City Centre has also been selected as a finalist in the ‘Restaurant & Bar Interior of the Year’ category at the Designer Awards UK.
As ever, the design studio has even more exciting projects on the cards that take incredible locations as a starting point. “We are commissioned on some really exciting projects; the transformation of a Masseria or fortified farmhouse in Puglia as well as a five star hotel in Riccione—and of course we will announce more exciting projects soon”.
With an ethos that seeks to create intelligent interiors that have heritage and hospitality at their heart, we can’t wait to see what else THDP dreams up by the next award season.
