How to SEO optimise your content without keyword stuffing

Keywords are an essential part of a good SEO strategy. However, using too many keywords or using one too frequently can reduce the quality of your content.

Google will also penalise websites that are keyword stuffing. Google has a complex algorithm that identifies when keywords are being deliberately overused to manipulate SERP and considers the content spam. Though there is no definitive guide on how many is too many, there are tips to ensure that you aren’t keyword stuffing when creating content.

Determine when a keyword is relevant

The first thing you can do is make sure that your keyword makes sense in your content. For example, if you are in the hospitality industry and writing an article about a beach resort, you shouldn’t optimise the content with terms related to a ski resort—even if your business has a ski resort. Focus on the topic and only use related keywords. Check out our blog on how to choose the best ones that can help.

Incorporate long-tail keywords

Long-tail keywords are phrases that are usually three to five words in length that build off your keyword. They are usually very descriptive and specific. You can find long-tail keywords pretty easily by just typing your main keyword into Google and letting it auto-populate the whole phrase. Using this approach will help you avoid being redundant while also targeting the specific needs of your audience.

Look for synonyms for your most relevant keywords

When writing about something really specific, you may find you are overstuffing your content with keywords naturally. If your business is a beach resort, you don’t have to continually refer to it as a beach resort. You can use synonymous terms like “oceanfront villas,” “seaside hotel,” or “inclusive resort”. This serves the dual purpose of ensuring you don’t keyword stuff your content while also hitting other valuable keywords.
